TOP NYC DRUMMER JOHN FAVICCHIA COMES FULL CIRCLE

Top NYC Drummer John Favicchia comes full circle!

After years of touring with Jazz Fusion bands and drum clinics, John is going back to his roots. “When I first started playing the drum set, I loved to play rock, progressive rock, as well as singer song writer music. At a certain point, I wanted to expand my playing. I started to study all styles of music. After some years of intense practice, I went out and started to play every style from Big Bands to Trio Jazz, to smooth jazz to Latin and Fusion. I also did many record dates in NYC in every style of music you can think of. Then in 1990, I put my own Fusion band together using the best players in NYC. I loved playing that music with all of those great musicians.

But then in the summer of 2003 I heard The Beautiful Letdown album by Switchfoot. For years after this, Switchfoot’s music kept getting under my skin. I was also listening to great bands like Coldplay, John Mayer with Steve Jordon on drums, Styx with my good friend and awesome drummer Todd Sucherman, and all of my buddies with Billy Joel’s band. And as time went on, I got more and more excited and inspired by them all. I continued to go out and hear many rock bands in NYC as well as Switchfoot whenever they came to town. All of those live shows were so inspirational and so powerful! I knew at that point I had to make the switch back to rock!”

In October of 2011, John stopped booking his own band to follow his heart and to play more groove oriented music. “I needed to spend some time practicing simple grooves at slow tempos and work on making them feel great. After all the fusion music and drum solo music I was playing, this took some adjustment.” At the same time, John started to play in Brooklyn and NYC in Blues and Alternative Rock bands. “I loved these gigs! I especially enjoyed playing with the alternative Rock band called Robbers. The songs that the band leader Andrew Accardi writes are awesome. Perfect music for where I want my drumming to be. Great drum grooves with awesome lyrics and melodies. I also get great satisfaction from making the song writer happy. It feels good to help the song writer realize his/ her vision.”
As John enters 2014 his new goals are bigger than ever. Keep an eye out for John as he indeed comes full circle back to playing his rock roots. Heartfelt grooves with spirit, power and passion!
